Description
Jetson is an icon of mid-century Swedish furniture. Bruno Mathsson spent three years working on this armchair, crafting a space-age design that inspired its name – borrowed from the popular futuristic American animated series of the period. The result of Mathsson’s work was unveiled at the 1969 Nordiska Galleriet exhibition in Stockholm, to resounding acclaim.
Highlights of the Jetson’s design include a bowl-shaped seat that is accompanied by a high, ergonomically designed back and headrest. The base of the chair is made in chrome-plated metal with a unique memory function, meaning the chair always rotates back to its original position. These are the features that have made Jetson milestone in Bruno Mathsson’s production programme. It’s a chair that has had many imitators over the years – but none hold up to the original.
